Le Quintette pour Bertolt Brecht est une extension d’une musique de sc\u00e8ne que j’ai \u00e9crite en 2006 pour la pi\u00e8ce de th\u00e9\u00e2tre Homme pour homme mise en sc\u00e8ne par Emmanuel Demarcy Mota. L’argument de cette pi\u00e8ce est d’une rare violence sociale, le spectateur assistant \u00e0 la transformation d’un homme quelconque au destin tranquille en un monstre de haine et de brutalit\u00e9. Destin\u00e9e \u00e0 la harpe seule, ma partition comportait plusieurs interludes tr\u00e8s expressionnistes o\u00f9 la harpe \u00e9tait souvent utilis\u00e9e \u00e0 contre-emploi, d’une fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s percussive. J’ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d’utiliser le mat\u00e9riau de ces interludes et de le d\u00e9velopper \u00e0 l’aide d’un quatuor \u00e0 cordes pour \u00e9crire cette oeuvre qui, bien qu’autonome, garde du projet originel une forte tension \u00e0 la fois dans les s\u00e9quences denses, mais aussi dans les passages plus \u00e9nigmatiques o\u00f9 la rar\u00e9faction du mat\u00e9riau n’agit aucunement dans une logique de d\u00e9tente du discours.
\nLe mat\u00e9riau issu de la musique de sc\u00e8ne a la fonction d’un \u00ab\u00a0refrain\u00a0\u00bb alternant avec des \u00e9l\u00e9ments in\u00e9dits, \u00e0 commencer par une cadence initiale pour violoncelle seul qui pr\u00e9sente le caract\u00e8re rhapsodique et discontinu de la suite. Le quatuor entre ensuite, de fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s ornementale, l’ensemble ayant une forme rappelant le genre du concerto.
\nLe Quintette pour Bertolt Brecht a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 Bad Reichenhall le 22 ao\u00fbt 2009 par Sarah O’Brien et le quatuor Danel, co-commanditaire de l’oeuvre avec le \u00ab\u00a0Lauers Freunde Quartett\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n
